I haven't written a blog post for a while because I've been away on vacation.  It seems this summer is flying by!  It's almost time to start thinking about getting ready for the fall.  I like to change my home's décor a little bit each season, so I'll soon be getting out my fall sofa slipcovers and putting my summer ones away for another year.

I'm excited to see that Sure Fit have just started selling slipcovers for futons.  As I quite often spend a weekend away visiting friends, I've slept on my fair share of futons in my time.  A futon is the sort of furniture that gets used in all kinds of rooms.  I've seen futons in student dorms, plush spare rooms, large living rooms and even home offices that double as spare rooms for visitors.  It makes sense to be able to give this type of furniture a makeover, just as you would a sofa or armchair, especially as most of the time your futon is likely to be used as a couch rather than a bed.

Earlier this year I wrote about how Slipcover Shop were going to start selling slipcovers for dining chairs with arms, and I thought it was about time I did an update on what's available.

I've just got back from a few days visiting with some good friends of mine, Richard and Danielle.  I had a great time catching up with their news and generally relaxing.  I sure feel in a summer mood now.  I hope this warm weather continues over the weekend. 

Anyway, my trip away was the inspiration for this post.  You see, Rich and Danielle have quite a small house, which means they don't actually have a designated guest room.  I found this out on the evening I arrived when they apologetically announced I was to sleep in the living room on their old sofa bed!

Looking at the faded upholstery and the worn out patches on the arms, I of course thought "this sofa's crying out to be slipcovered!"  So, I tactfully suggested to Danielle that a new slipcover could make her sofa bed look fantastic.  She agreed, but said she didn't think anyone made slipcovers for sofa beds, and if they did she'd never seen them for sale anywhere.

I pointed out that actually most of the time they use their sofa bed as a regular couch, and there's no reason why a regular sized furniture slipcover wouldn't fit it.  I know several people who use sofa or loveseat slipcovers on double or queen-sized sofa beds.  You just have to remove it when you want to open up the bed.  Or if you get a cover with a straight skirt you can just lift up the skirt to pull the bed out.

I've been loving this wonderful sunny weather we've had recently - it seems like summer's finally arrived.  To be honest I've probably been spending more time outside in the garden than inside my house.  However, when I was cleaning the living room yesterday I decided it was time for a change! 

You see, I like to use different sets of slipcovers according to the time of year.  And now the weather's warming up and we're getting lots of sunshine, my winter sofa covers looked all out of place.  So, I quickly ripped them off and dug out a nice clean set of slipcovers that I keep in my linen closet.  They're made from a pretty pale blue floral fabric and really lighten the room up and give it an airy, cool feel.  I love my furniture's new look and the room's now a welcome retreat from the heat outside.

Back in April I wrote a post about my friend Chrissie and how she found a way to use stretchy slipcovers on her furniture with loose back cushions.  She couldn't find any that were designed to fit this style, so following my advice she replaced the back cushions with new pillows and is very happy with the result.
