On Sunday we invited a few friends and neighbours to our house for pre Christmas drinks, seeing as it’s that time of year again already. I made some of my mulled wine, as that’s always popular when we have guests, as well as mince pies and other party food. We put all our Christmas decorations up and hung the lights on the tree. And to add the finishing touches and complete the festive mood, I fitted my new stretch slipcovers on my living room furniture.
This time I’d chosen garnet stretch pique slipcovers from Sure Fit, for my loveseats, sofa and armchairs. This deep red color is just right for this time of year, and is welcoming and warm. Shortly before people began to arrive, I put on some Christmas music to get everyone in a party mood. This proved a popular decision as after a couple of glasses of mulled wine, several people started dancing!
It wasn’t long before the first accident occurred. Andrew, our neighbour from down the street, got a bit carried away on the dancefloor and didn’t notice until it was too late that he’d spilled half his drink over the sofa. Later on, another neighbour, Sharon, somehow managed to sit on the remains of a mince pie that had landed on the arm of my loveseat, squishing the mincemeat into the slipcover material.
You get the picture, it was quite a lively party! That evening when everyone had finally gone, I surveyed the damage. Although my slipcovers are washable, I realised I didn’t have time to wash them and hang them out to dry before Monday, when I was expecting more visitors. Fortunately, I had a spare set to hand in the linen cupboard, which are dark green and work just as well at creating a holiday mood. I whipped the dirty covers off and it didn’t take me long to fit the clean slipcovers on my furniture, ready for the next onslaught of guests! I learned my lesson there and have vowed to always make sure I’ve got a clean set of slipcovers on standby for emergencies like this!
